A tintype is an early form of photograph where the image is taken directly on a thin metal sheet. Since there is no intervening negative, the image appears reversed. In this scan the tintype image has itself been reversed so it will appear normal. It is a half plate tintype measuring 4 1/8 x 5 3/8.
