This is the historic original tombstone for Caroline Hopkins, the wife of Nathaniel Nathaniel "Nace" Hopkins. Although the original tombstone was in very good condition, it was replaced by a modern tombstone erected by the Trappe Bicentennial Committee some years ago. Unfortunately the modern replacement only gives the years of her birth and death.

The epitaph on Caroline’s original tombstone reads "CAROLINE HOPKINS/ Born 1867./ Died/ Mar. 7, 1912"
Note that the date of her birth is incorrect. Her death certificate lists her birth as June 20, 1820, not 1867 and she had been married, widowed and married again and had children by both marriages by 1867. But since the date of her death March 7, 1912 is exactly the same on her death certificate and her original tombstone and since, as shown by a search of the census records, she had no daughter named Caroline who was born in 1867 or any other year, this must be the tombstone of Caroline Hopkins, his wife.
