Trappe Feed Service

Trappe Feed Service, Inc. The picture was taken on South Main Street from the front porch of W.E. Cryer's previous home looking south/southwest. The picture depicts mules hauling grains into the mill from the fields around Trappe where thrashing machines would have thrashed/bagged the grains. I have no date on the picture but I would guess that it is early to mid 20th century. [above] Submitted by Dale Kirby in the behalf of his parents, Robert "Bobby" and Dorothy Kirby.

Trappe Feed Service - the end

The Trappe Feed Service, inc. building was subjected to numerous modifications and additions during the last half of the twentieth century. At various times it housed a fertilizer distributor, hardware store, auto repair shop, car dealership, boat dealership, residential apartments, and served as the base of operation for a school bus contractor. The property was the subject of numerous zoning disputes with the Town of Trappe and by 2007 the building had fallen into a severe state of disrepair and was subsequently torn down.    [color photos by Robert Croswell]
