Slave quarters Hampden
Hampden on south side Island Creek Neck is one of the oldest houses in the county, originally owned by the Martin family in the 1660s. Legend has it that the first white child born in Talbot County, Hannah Martin, was born here. The present house dates from the early 1700s. These photographs were taken by Thomas Firth in 1908. The third photograph shows what is said to have been the slave quarters. The Martin's sold the farm to the Leonards in the late 1800s who then sold it to Thomas Firth in the 1930s.
